Cuba Trip June 2009At the beginning of this June the stars aligned properly for me to travel once again to Cuba. My first trip to Cuba took me to Havana around 2001.
This trip was going to Santiago de Cuba, using it as the starting point for a journey into the more rural provinces of the east. I traveled with 2 friends Oliver and Gianni, making this trip all that more fun. Our intention was to Kitesurf in a number of new locations on the north coast in the eastern provinces of Camagüey, Las Tunas, Holguín and Guantánamo. My personal goal was to come up with new photography documenting the place as is, frozen in time somewhere between 1959 and the present day. Oliver who has lived and studied in Cuba turned out to be an excellent guide. Unfortunately we did not get to Kitesurf hardly at all, the wind gods were not with us... Despite it we all had a great time and we never experienced a dull moment. Going to Cuba feels a lot like time travel without a DeLorean car and Michael J Fox, you don't need it, it is just around the corner and the time is the same, well we did wonder a few times... So here I present you with some images of the island, it's natural beauty, the hospitality of it's people, vintage cars, horse carriages or "bici-taxis" and few rare kite images...
