Cabarete Jazz Festival 2009

Only a couple of days have passed since the most recent Jazz Festival here. Cabarete was vibrant with energy, so much was going on...

On some of the days of the festival there was also a surfing competition taking place. And we did have some weather, truly tough large wave conditions for surfing and rain pelting the tent and stage of the Jazz event intermittently. I apologize for veering of the path, I want to stay with the Jazz event here...

The guest were undeterred, despite the weather, seeking shelter during the short lived downpours under anything resembling a roof, at all times committed to celebrating truly great music; Jazz mixed with a dose of Latin flair. In my book Latin Jazz is the best this genre does offer!

The musicians entertaining included:

  • Ania Paz Jazz Ensemble: DR (Dominican Republic)
  • Holograma Quintet with Chembo Corniel: (Puerto Rico & USA)
  • Antonio Sánchez Quartet: (Mexico & USA)
  • Marco Pignataro Quintet: (Italy, USA & Puerto Rico)
  • Fellé Vega + Un Folclore Imaginario: (Dominican Republic)
  • José Alberto, El Canario: (USA & Dominican Republic)
