Bayahibe 2011On my recent trip to the DR (Dominican Republic) I went to visit friends in the small town of Bayahibe. Bayahibe is nestled into the southeastern corner of the Dominican Republic west of the small island Saona, maybe about an hour and 30 minutes from Punta Cana. It's got a great natural bay/ harbor so it became the starting point of just about all boat day-trips that venture to Saona island... My friends Yumiko and Lamont run a paddle boarding/ SUP business there as well as an ice cream shop "frio frio" ... The town is compact and charming and a bit off the beaten track in the DR would it not be for the boat tours. The water is shallow and crystal clear so you see the bottom a long ways out and all the marine life, cruising over it. I saw a spotted sting ray within the first 15 minutes out on the water! Yumiko took a couple of images of me paddling in the bay. Here is one...
I like the place and I am sure to visit again! |
