Dominican Republic Education And Mentoring (DREAM) Project

Mission Statement:

The Dominican Republic Education And Mentoring (DREAM) Project, a US 501c3 nonprofit organization, provides quality education for all children born into poverty in rural areas and small communities of the Dominican Republic.

As one of their main photographers I became a keen observer of the organizationsince from the start. At it's inception it was little more than a grass roots effort, started by Patricia Suriel and Michael Zaleski and a few others, recognizing the desperate need of the majority of underprivileged children for true education...

It involved and to this day still does involve, the need for better school house facilities, class rooms, bathrooms, computer labs, libraries and cleaner yards to play outside. Teaching materials were needed, better educated staff, volunteer help for the summer camps, medical and dental education and service, general discipline needed to be thought, even at the children's homes. The families were asked to get involved, attend meetings and help with certain tasks, community building!

A great effort has been made, the project is on a clear path into the future. Respect and recognition on a international stage has come, offering new opportunities for DREAM. I hope they continue to make good use of their inertia and keep the educational ball rolling...
